Dr. Joel Wilson is a board-certified cardiologist and internist with more than twenty years of clinical experience. He earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Washington, completing his residency in Internal Medicine there before pursuing fellowship training in cardiovascular diseases at the University of Kentucky. He went on to complete advanced clinical and research fellowships in cardiovascular imaging at the National Institutes of Health, where his work focused on cardiac MRI and CT.
Before joining MD², Dr. Wilson built a distinguished career at Overlake Medical Center and Clinics, where he served as Medical Director of Overlake Clinics Cardiology, Chair of Cardiology, and a member of the Medical Center’s Board of Directors. He previously held faculty appointments at the University of California, San Diego, where he directed the Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging program. Recognized by peers for his leadership and excellence in patient care, he has been named a Seattle Met “Top Doctor” each year from 2021 through 2025.
At MD², Dr. Wilson brings his background in cardiovascular medicine and diagnostics to the broader scope of primary care. He is drawn to the MD² model because it allows the time and continuity to build deep, enduring relationships with each patient—relationships founded on mutual trust, curiosity, and shared decision-making. He feels medicine is most rewarding when the patient and physician are learning together. “I’ve always been inspired by thoughtful, engaged patients who ask great questions. My goal is to create a space where we can explore those questions fully, using both evidence and judgment to make decisions that truly fit a patient’s life.”
Dr. Wilson’s approach to care is grounded in clarity and humility. He believes that the nuances of health risk and testing—what we can and cannot know—should be openly discussed. He believes that every choice in medicine involves trade-offs, and that no test is perfect. Talking through those uncertainties honestly is where real partnership happens.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Wilson enjoys cooking, skiing, hiking, and spending time outdoors with his family. He and his wife live in Bellevue and have three children, two in high school and one attending Western Washington University. Most weekends, he is on the sidelines of a soccer game or exploring the Pacific Northwest’s mountains.
