Dr. Scott Clitheroe, a native Texan, is a board-certified internist who has earned a superlative reputation in the Austin medical community. His appreciation for relationship-based care runs deep and guides his medical philosophy. It is this rare combination of heart and mind for which peers and patients have long celebrated him. He has also received multiple awards and accolades throughout his career, including Texas Monthly Super Doctors and Austin Monthly Top Doctors.

Dr. Clitheroe earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where he graduated with multiple honors. His internship and residency in Internal Medicine were completed at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, during which he was selected as Medical Resident of the Year. Returning to Austin to begin his medical career, Dr. Clitheroe was one of the first Hospitalists in the city. He founded Austin Hospital Physicians, where he remained president and CEO for over a decade. Before joining MD2, he also served as the Medical Director for IPC, The Hospitalist Company, and Guiding Hospice.

Outside of his patient-care responsibilities, Dr. Clitheroe has served in numerous capacities in the medical community, including executive committee member at Seton Medical Center. He has also been involved in leadership roles at the local level, serving as the Medical Director of Get Up Project at The Hope Medical Clinic, serving the homeless and underinsured population in Austin.

Dr. Clitheroe has been actively involved in organized medicine. He has been an executive board member of the Travis County Medical Society and was its President in 2022. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association and serves in its House of Delegates. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Club of Internists, the American College of Physicians, and the Society of Hospital Medicine. He is affiliated with Seton Medical Center and St. David’s Hospital System.
