Dr. Leslie Thomas is a nationally recognized expert in nephrology. He brings over 15 years of clinical experience and a distinguished record in patient care, education, and research. He earned his medical doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, followed by an Internal Medicine residency and a Nephrology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Dr. Thomas joins MD² as a primary care physician who takes the time to truly understand each patient’s needs. Known for his warm and thoughtful approach, he blends deep medical expertise with the latest research to offer care that’s both personal and precise. He believes in working closely with patients as partners in their health, fostering open communication and shared decision-making to support every individual’s wellness journey.
Before joining MD², Dr. Thomas was recognized for his expertise in hypertension, electrolyte disorders, and kidney disease. At Mayo Clinic Arizona, he held several leadership roles, including Chair of the Clinical Competency Committee for the Nephrology Fellowship Program, Associate Chair of Research for the Division of Nephrology, Medical Director of Hospital Dialysis, and Medical Director of Mayo’s affiliated outpatient dialysis facility. At the national level, he has served on multiple medical education committees, including the In-Training Exam Test Item Development Committee of the National Board of Medical Examiners, the Item-Writing Task Force of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), and ABIM’s Standard Setting Committee.
Dr. Thomas has received numerous honors, including the James D. Heard Senior Prize in Medicine and multiple medical education and patient satisfaction awards at Mayo Clinic.
Outside of MD², he enjoys spending time with his family, chess, violin, and golf.
