Dr. Joseph J. Hennessy is a native of Chicago, where he has provided primary care to many of his esteemed colleagues and prominent community members for over three decades, earning him the distinctive role of being the “Doctor’s doctor.” An avid baseball fan and former Little League coach, Dr. Hennessy has served as the Chicago White Sox Team physician since 2004, a role he enjoys both personally and professionally.
After graduating magna cum laude from Illinois Benedictine College, Dr. Hennessy went on to earn his medical degree from Rush Medical College. He completed his internship and residency at Rush University Medical Center, where he received accolades as Intern, Resident, and Attending of the Year. He is Board Certified.
Dr. Hennessy serves as an Assistant Professor and a Senior Attending physician at Rush University Medical Center. He is actively engaged in the broader medical community as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians as well as a member of the Chicago Medical Society.
He deeply values the opportunity to collaborate with fellow MD² physicians, both throughout the year and at the annual MD² physician conferences, where ideas and best practices are shared.
Beyond his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Hennessy is committed to community service, volunteering as Medical Director of Community Health, the largest free clinic in the United States. His dedication to excellence has earned him recognition as a Top Chicago Doctor by both Castle Connolly and Chicago Magazine.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Hennessy enjoys quality time with his wife and children, exploring Chicago’s vibrant restaurant scene, and staying active—especially through outdoor cycling and as an avid Peloton enthusiast.
