Dr. Charles T. Owens, an internist and nephrologist, brings over 14 years of patient-centered care to MD2. His journey has been marked by a genuine passion for improving lives as well as educating others. Prior to joining MD2, Dr. Owens served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Dr. Owens earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He has broad clinical experience from General Internal Medicine, Palliative Care Medicine, and Acute/Critical Care Medicine.
During his residency in internal medicine at UT Southwestern, Dr. Owens honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of patient needs. He received his fellowship in nephrology from Harvard Medical School, where he trained at both Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.
Dr. Owens has made significant contributions to patient care, research, and education while serving on the teaching and clinical faculty at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas from 2014-2019, and UT Southwestern faculty from 2020 to 2024. Dr. Owens is dedicated to teaching at all levels, from medical students, advanced practice nurses, residents, fellows, and most important patients. Educating and empowering patients to inform their individual care is a primary focus in his practice.
D Magazine recognized him in their Best Doctors list for nephrology in 2021. Additionally, he has received multiple teaching awards from the Departments of Nephrology, Internal Medicine, UTSW Medical School, and Critical Care Advanced Practitioners. Dr. Owens was also recognized as one of Texas Rising Stars from 2016 – 2018.
